What we do

Services at Ley Hill Methodist church are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.  Services last about an hour. The services are led by the church minister or a visiting preacher, who can be male or female. The service includes a mixture of singing, prayer and a Bible-based message. Music is provided by a music group and the songs are a mixture of traditional favourites and modern tunes.  There are special services at Easter, Harvest and Christmas. Occasionally the service includes taking holy communion of bread and (non-alcoholic) wine. Sometimes there are special services such as breakfast church, outdoor services or united village services. Services are followed by refreshments, usually a cup of tea or coffee, and some biscuits or cake, when people chat and catch up with each other.

Sunday Club

Sunday Club is the new name for Sunday School. They join the Sunday service for the first 15 minutes and then divide into junior and senior groups looking at a passage of the Bible. All teachers have had DBS checks and Safeguarding training. Each third Sunday in a month there is an all-age Family Service at 10:30 am when the children stay in a child-friendly service.

Some children in the Bible Class also attend Youth Express on Sunday evenings.

Youth Express

On Sunday evenings there is a weekly Youth group called Youth Express. The group is open to boys and girls who attend local secondary schools. They meet at 6 pm at the chapel until 7:30 pm, and every other week includes free pizza.  There are activities such as table tennis, pool and table football.  The group finishes with an epilogue. The group consists of children from the church, their friends and others from the village. Some children come every week and enjoy it very much. The leaders are DBS checked and have had Safeguarding training. Youth Express has a Facebook page called “Youth Express @ Ley Hill Methodist church” and a WhatsApp group.

Bible Study

Each Wednesday evening there is a fellowship when people meet to study the Bible, chat and pray.  It meets in someone’s home and others join by Zoom, including some from other churches nearby.

Sometimes they follow a video course, and other times members of the group take it in turns leading the study sessions. They often follow a theme for about 2 months.

Choir

There is a choir that forms for special concerts. A Christmas concert has been held at Ley Hill Methodist church since the choir was formed in 1910. The annual choir concert is a permanent fixture in the calendar and has a combination of choir pieces, solos, duets and drama sketches to tell the story of Christmas. There is also often a summer concert with a mixture of Christian and secular music. The choir is also open to people who do not regularly attend church but enjoy singing. They practise on Friday evenings in the run-up to a concert.

Well Seasoned

Every second Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 pm there is a group for those more well-seasoned in years called Well Seasoned. There is a programme of talks and activities such as quizzes and special meals at Lent and Christmas. Many people from Ley Hill come along. The group started in the year 2000 when the Women’s Fellowship allowed men to join. It is run by people from the congregation and meets in the chapel.

Toddlers

There is a group for preschool children and parents, guardians or carers. It meets in the chapel on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am during term time. Adults can chat over a cup of tea and children can make friends and play. The session ends with a Bible story.
